About Jeffrey Swartz

Born and raised in Vancouver, Canada, Jeffrey Swartz is an art critic, exhibitions curator and professor of art theory and history. He has been a Barcelona resident since 1987. 

He has a BA in History from McGill University, Montreal, and has taken graduate courses in the Philosophy of Science from the University of British Columbia, and in the Theory of Modern Architecture from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB).

An active critic and curator in contemporary art since 1989, Jeffrey Swartz has published extensively; he has worked for numerous Spanish and international journals, writing for publications such as Flash Art and Art News. He has done curatorial projects in Spain, France and Canada. He is also active a cultural journalist, working for Time Out in the Barcelona Guide. Furthermore, he translates extensively in Spanish and Catalan cultural themes.

In the mid-1990s Jeffrey Swartz began teaching Barcelona urban history at the Winchester School of Art Masters program in Barcelona, and he continues to work for numerous art and architecture schools who bring their students to the city for cultural programs. Currently he teaches theory of art and design at Barcelona's Escola Eina, and has recently given courses at Emily Carr University, Vancouver and the Haute École d'art de Perpignan, France.
